This is my personal list of apps every new mac user should download. Note these choices are geared towards former Windows users who have now switched to the Mac, so as an example I have included a virtual machine in the list, which allows me to run Windows software side-by-side with the new Mac-only applications. There are of course personal choices, and will probably not be similar to the choices of other avid Mac users out there. On to the list, in no particular order. 1. Parallels Desktop for Mac is a software product by Parallels, Inc., a developer of desktop and server virtualization software. It allows you to run Windows software alongside your Mac software. 2. Yummy FTP After evaluating multiple FTP programs for the Mac, this emerged as the winner for me. 3. Typinator. This is an easy-to-use automatic text software that lets you insert phrases and pictures into any type of document. 4. Taco HTML Editor. This is touted as a refreshingly bloat-free html and text editor that integrates nicely with Yummy FTP and other FTP programs. I found it to fit it's description exactly. 5. Skype. Skype For Mac OS X allows you to make calls from your computer - free to other people on Skype, cheap to phones and mobiles across the world. 6. Skitch. Skitch is a free software allowing me to easily perform screencaptures, annotating and exporting of images. 7. RapidWeaver. This is a web design software that enables me to create template-based websites rapidly. I've retired my Dreamweaver for most quick design jobs, after discovering the power of RapidWeaver. 8. Marsedit. This is the software I am currently using to publish all my blogs. 9. Mail. Apple email is an e-mail program included with Apple Inc.'s Mac OS X operating system. 10. Jotter. This is somewhat like a sticky pad, that enables me to quickly take down text notes. 11. FireFox. My choice of web browser on the Mac. Safari comes a close second. 12. iPhoto. Apple's powerful built-in photo management and editing software handles all my photo editing and management needs. Well these are the applications I'm currently using on a nearly daily basis on my Mac. I'll soon provide an update to this article, with any new sofware that has made it to my "must-have" list.
