APACS, the UK payment's association, has just launched a consumer guide that aims to help consumers understand their credit card statement. The new advice guide, launched on April 13 2007, is entitled "Understanding your credit card statement", and provides credit card consumers with need-to-know information about common features and terms, while offering detailed advice on what to look out for when checking statements. With a range of helpful hints and tips to facilitate a better understanding of consumer finance, the new APACS guide also offers advice on how and why credit card statements should be checked regularly and thoroughly. According to APACS (http://www.apacs.org.uk), 47 per cent of adults in the UK do not check their credit card statements thoroughly enough. What's more, the research undertaken by the payments association in June 2006 shows that a further four per cent of credit card owners do not even look at their statements! Credit card users in Yorkshire and Humberside top the league of those not checking credit card statements with nine per cent, almost one in ten, admitting to not opening their credit card statements at all. These regions are followed by London and Wales (both at five per cent), then North West England and Scotland (both at four per cent). Credit card users in the East of England performed best in the research with only one per cent of people admitting to never checking their credit card statements. Sarah Quinn, director of communications at APACS, commented: "Although people are getting better at checking their statements, our research suggests that there is still a lot of work to be done. Armed with this advice guide, we believe consumers will be better equipped to get the most from their credit card statement - enabling them to understand the terminology on the statement, highlighting the importance of checking the statement thoroughly and explaining what to do even if you are having trouble making repayments." If you're experiencing difficulties with managing your credit card debt, or understanding financial jargon on your credit card statement, the new APACS guide could be your saviour. With information explaining what is meant by phrases, such as 'allocation of payments', 'payment date' and 'APR', as well as advice and help on what to do if you're having difficulty paying off what you owe to your credit card company, this new consumer guide is sure to become an invaluable resource for credit card users in the UK in 2007.
