The most popular air conditioner is the window mounted air conditioners. The total ventilation and dehumidification of your room can be best done by installing an air conditioner for a double hung window. It does not occupy any space at all, unlike the central air conditioners. Still it is not without the shortfalls. The irritating noise level, that is coming from a window air conditioner can be disturbing and disgusting to the inhabitants and the neighbors. It is recommendable to read the literature specifications while purchasing any window air conditioner. Decibel (Unit of sound) ratings should be compared briefly. Higher decibel means louder air conditioner. Every 10 decibels increase will make the air conditioner noisier by a factor of 10. Check out the noise areas - The combined effect of compressor and fans in the window mounted air conditioner is the source of all noises. - Worn bearings, cabinet rattles, dirty or rusty fan blades, worn rubber mountings and compressor wear are some of the areas which are responsible for the bitter sound effect. However, a rattling noise means a kind of abnormality and hence it should be checked thoroughly. It may so happen that while installing the air conditioner, some loose ends are left open. And that makes that kind of noise. If there is any situation like this, you can seek the help of the authorized service provider. But at least initially you can do something before talking to the professional. Who knows you may solve that problem. Check the window carefully and tighten the front panel screw. Now, just turn the window air conditioner on and press your hand under the sash. If you find no noise at all or the noise level is reduced to some extent, while pressing your hands there at, it means there should be some gap and it needs to be filled in. As such, it would be better to put some wooden shims in the gap of the window air conditioner and the sash. If pressing your hands on the glass reduces noise pitch, it is advisable to put insulating cellophane tape between the glass and the frame. If after putting the insulating cellophane the noise is not reduced, you need to use putty. But if the sound comes from inside, then you have to take the air conditioner out of the window to make yourself confirm whether the fan blades are not bended. Accordingly you can take action.
