If you like to have the cold air and at the same time you want the easy and healthy breathing options at your disposal, then it is really advisable to think about the type of air filters that are usually used in an air conditioner. Other than the breathing option, you can do to keep a maximum efficiency of your air conditioner by changing the air filter used therein. A dirty air filter must be replaced in an interval of every 3 to 6 months, though some contractor advises to change it every month. That's a bit extreme task, except you do not suffer from the allergies. There is no best air filter. You can never claim that this one is the best one. There can be several air filters available in the market and as such each one is better than the other. Electrostatic Air Filters Electrostatic air filters which are the combination of mechanical and technological air filtration options have become quite popular in the recent times, because those filters can remove dust particles from the air by using static electricity. Media Air Filters Media air filter is often called HVAC air filter. It is less used. The two plausible reasons are its availability and awareness. This filter is more commonly used by the HVAC professionals than the normal inhabitants. It is slightly costlier than its other counterparts. It ventilates and purifies the air with its cooling option. There is a classification: replaceable media filters that can be fitted in all brands of air conditioner comprising Trane, Carrier, Lennox, Ruud, American Standard and all others. Pleated Air Filters This kind of filter is made with a material that is folded into the pleats. It is 20 to 30 percent efficient. This actually depends on the materials used in the construction of the filter. But it is not that much efficient in removing the minutest dust particles like the Electrostatic Air Filters. HEPA Air Filters Dust mites, pet dander, pollen, mold spores and other household allergens are removed by the HEPA filter. It is 99% efficient and it is the most commonly used filter. Activated Carbon Air Filters Often called as a charcoal filter, a carbon air filter can take out smoke, chemicals, many other gases and odors from the households. So, we have found that two reasons, a human and a mechanical, are there behind the changing of an air filter and in doing so one can easily preserve a good health and an efficient air conditioner.
