Air conditioner parts

An air conditioner consists of an evaporator, condenser and a compressor. Amongst these the evaporator is installed inside the air conditioner and the compressor and condenser outside.

The main function of an air conditioner is based upon the sequential heating and cooling of a liquid called freon. This liquid is an extremely volatile fluid. This liquid initially enters the compressor where it is changed into the gaseous state. The heat is released and this helps the liquid to cool down. The air is released after this and it moves outwards with the aid of a fan. The liquid enters into the condenser unit and it is here that the heat from the surrounding atmosphere is absorbed and it is reconverted to the gaseous state. This is how the air around becomes cooler. The process is repeated over and over again to cool the area around.

Besides these basic parts, an air conditioner has a hot coil placed outside the machine. It helps to disperse the heat. There is also a cool coil inside that absorbs the heat. A control circuit and two fans, which are placed both inside and outside helps to modify the temperature. A potentiometer is also there to change the speed of rotation so that temperature can be modified.

An air conditioner is incomplete without a compressor. The compressor is the most expensive and vital part of an air conditioner. If this part is of good quality then the air conditioner will function well for years ahead. Of course a new one can be bought and installed to replace the old if it develops snags. The ideal condition would be to buy the compressor from the same company, which manufactured the other parts. But this does not happen often because most companies buy the compressors and place it in their own.

The evaporators, condensers, heating and cooling coils are also easily replaceable. If the coils are not functioning properly, the heat is also not being properly dissipated which leads to unsatisfactory results. The parts that can be easily replaced are the fans. They are fitted with the help of screws to the outer part. To the air conditioner circuit board it is attached with the help of wires.

Another very important component of an air conditioner is the outer cover. Its only function is to raise the aesthetic appeal of the air conditioner. It is usually made of molded plastic and they come in a variety of colors and designs to suite our tastes. Besides this there is also a water-carrying duct. This is an absolute necessity for air conditioners that face the road outside.
