Aldactone Medicine - Uses, Dosage and Side Effects

Aldactone Dosage

*For the treatment of Primary Hyperaldosteronism, the usual starting dose is 400 milligrams per day.
*For the treatment of Essential Hypertension, the usual starting dose is 50 to 100 milligrams daily.

Uses of Aldactone

*Aldactone is in a class of drugs called potassium-sparing diuretics . It is used to reduce the amount of fluid in your body without causing the loss of potassium. Aldactone is used to treat edema
*It is used to treat hyperaldosteronism, a condition in which the adrenal gland secretes too much aldosterone.
*It is also used to treat other medical conditions that require the elimination of excess fluid from the body.

Side Effects of Aldactone

*Before taken Aldactone medicine, you should discuss the side effects with your doctor. If any develop or change in intensity, then you should inform your doctor as soon as possible. Because only your doctor can determine if it is safe for you to continue taking Alamast. Side effects may include:

*Abdominal cramps
*Breast development in males
*Change in potassium levels
*Diarrhea
*Excessive hairiness
*Fever
*Headache
*Irregular menstruation
*Kidney problems
*Skin eruptions
*Stomach bleeding
*Ulcers
*Vomiting

Warnings and precautions before taking Aldactone

*Tell your doctor and pharmacist if you are allergic to spironolactone; any other medications; or the ingredients in spironolactone tablets. Ask your pharmacist for a list of the ingredients.
*Tell your doctor if you are taking amiloride, potassium supplements, triamterene (Dyrenium). Your doctor may tell you not to take aldactone if you are taking one or more of these medications.
*You should not be taken ACE inhibitors such as Vasotec, Capoten while you are using Aldactone.
*If you have liver disease, then you should be used this medicine with extra caution.
*If you are taking this medicine, then it may cause excessive sweating, severe diarrhea, or vomiting. So you should be used this medicine with extra caution.

Drug Interaction :- If you are taking Aldactone with certain other drugs, then the effects of either could be increased, decreased, or altered. So it is especially important to check with your doctor before combining Aldactone with the following:

*ACE inhibitors such as Vasotec and Capoten
*Barbiturates such as phenobarbital and Seconal
*Digoxin
*Indomethacin
*Lithium
*Narcotic drugs such as those containing codeine
*Other high blood pressure medications
*Steroids such as prednisone

Overdose

Any medication taken in excess can have serious consequences. If you suspect an overdose, seek medical attention immediately.

Symptoms of Aldactone overdose may include:

o Confusion
o Diarrhea
o Dizziness
o Drowsiness
o Nausea
o Patchy raised skin rash, vomiting
