You don't need to spend all of your money on dermatologist visits to get natural ways to cure acne. Alternative acne cures can be more effective in many cases than the expensive solutions offered by a doctor. To get optimal results, you might need to combine a few of these natural ways to cure acne. Acne is more than simply a skin disease; it is also a systemic condition which can crop up due to many different factors. Basically, the cause of the symptoms is too much androgen (a hormone) and too much sebum. In severe cases, consultation with a doctor may be warranted. In cases where women develop acne in conjunction with a cessation of menstruation and development of facial hair, for instance, may have underlying conditions responsible for their acne. The production of sebum is triggered by stress. Sebum builds up at the base of hair follicles and forms a whitehead or blackhead when it combines with flakes of dead skin which feed bacteria. Try to keep your stress level under control with techniques like meditation, relaxation or exercise. Diet also has a lot of effect on acne. A diet which is balanced, with lots of fruits and vegetables, little sugar and plenty of water strengthens the immune system and will discourage acne formation. One of the worst things you can do when you suddenly have a breakout is to overscrub the area - this will irritate your skin, which will encourage more acne to form! Rather than do this, gently wash your face with warm water and rinse with cold water twice a day - remember to pat, not rub your face dry. After you wash your face, try a fresh astringent from the refrigerator. Lemons contain Alpha-Hydroxy acid. The Alpha-Hydroxy acid is an exfoliating agent. It helps the skin to slough off dead cells to prevent-build up that leads to pimples. Lemon juice also acts as an antiseptic to aid in the prevention of infection. Infection makes the annoying little whiteheads turn angry and red. Squeeze half a lemon into a dish for this alternative acne cure and dip a clean cotton ball. Blot your face with the lemon juice and allow it to dry. If you have sensitive skin, you may need to dilute the juice with distilled water. Once the juice dries, rinse your face again with cool water. One alternative cure for acne which is forgotten by many is calamine lotion. Calamine lotion works by drying the oil on the skin, soothes irritation and contains zinc oxide, which is both an astringent and a drying agent. You can apply calamine lotion to problem areas before bed and wash it off in the morning. After all, walking around calamine lotion pink all day may be far worse than having acne! Caldryl with calamine lotion can also be effective. While less effective than solely using calamine, it's clear enough for daytime use. Another great option out of the natural ways to cure acne is tea tree oil. This oil should be diluted with water, aloe vera or a mild astringent if you have sensitive skin, since it can be an irritant at full strength. Tea tree oil has antibacterial properties and while it won't cure your acne as such, it can reduce the severity of outbreaks. Try starting with one part tea tree oil per 19 parts aloe, water or astringent. You can increase this amount to reach a ratio which is optimal for your skin.
