Cheaper Car Insurance Tips for Women

By: Nelson

The reason why women do not pay as much for their auto insurance is overall they are involved in less insurance claims than men. Although there are many factors involved with this, the main reasons point towards their driving manner and the types of cars they drive which are generally more sensible then men's.

Whatever the reason, car insurance companies prefer lady drivers to their gentlemen counterparts because they are considered as much less risky drivers although it is because the accident rates of ladies are lower.

The problem is that although both sexes actually face similar driving conditions, when a man has an accident, the damage to the vehicle is normally far greater than if a woman had been driving. What this means is that women will only pay around seventy percent of the amount for their premium that a man will pay based on similar circumstances.

Women usually drive slower than men so accidents caused by lady drivers are not as serious so in most instances the claims are lower ensuring insurers pay out less; lowering premiums.

Since men generally drive at higher speeds, when they have an accident, the loss is high and when the accident involves two vehicles with high amounts of damage, it becomes an insurance company's nightmare. From an insurer's pint of view, even a newly qualified woman is a lower risk driver than a man who has just passed his exam.

For many years now it has been possible for women drivers to obtain auto insurance from companies that only provide car insurance to women. Providers are just trying to protect their assets and other member's premiums which will have to rise if they have to pay out for large claims made by male drivers.

These companies may exist with a lower profit margin than most large insurers but they are able to attract many customers to make up for the shortfall in individual premium shortfalls.

If you are a woman then you really need to get a quote for a lady's car insurance policy preferably one that includes legal cover as well as it will help to claim back any excess from the third party in the event of a non-fault claim. Clean driving licenses are also a way to keep premiums down and additional discounts can be included where a vehicle is stored in a garage when not in use.

It is worth noting that auto insurance companies that only insure women drivers are often small and cannot always offer the same discounts as larger companies that do not have ladies only policies. As the costs surrounding insurance generally continue to spiral upwards, it would be a good idea to go online and apply for quotes from a number of insurers, even if they are not women drivers only.
