Doors are an essential part of your home. It is the first thing that attracts the attention of the visitors, when they visit your home or office. Doors reflect your personality. A neat, well trimmed door reveals the qualities of the home maker. The door should be fashioned according to the decor of your home. Nowadays, we have an array of doors to choose from, that will match our architecture and the interior decoration. Dutch doors are known for their classic look, while old heavy wooden doors, with ornate trim and big brass knobs are still in vogue. You even have the choice of clubbing the country style and old world style. One of the most popular doors today is the simple, elegant door, with a little trim to make it look smart and efficient.

The traditional style doors, or the country style Dutch doors, are named after their country of origination. Dutch doors were made in Netherlands, way back in the 1600s. These doors were popularly seen in old country homes, which enhanced the unconventional look. However, Dutch doors are rarely seen in modern homes today. You can add the traditional country look to your decor by installing Dutch doors, making it look very elegant.

The Dutch door is made up of a door divided into two, a top half and a bottom half. Either the top or the bottom half can be opened or when they are latched together can be used like a standard door.

Traditionally Dutch doors were used in stables. It was a very convenient style for animals that moved in a restricted territory. Usually the top half of the door would be kept open for ventilation, while the bottom half would be locked for security purposes. Dutch doors were also used as front entryways and interior doors. Even today Dutch doors are very popularly used in barns, all over the world.

Today new houses are not equipped with Dutch doors unless especially ordered. Some people like these unique doors added to their houses as they bring a special country charm to the home. They can be used as back doors, garages or garden sheds.

A classic entrance door to your home is the best way to impress your visitors. The doors are usually very heavy, and are made of hard wood such as oak. These doors are known for their durability and weather resistance. If they are painted or varnished regularly, they will last for a very long time. A classic wood door is usually a little more expensive than the other doors, but they promise resistance and increase the real estate value of your house.

Modern doors are often a little plainer than other styles and have a simple design. They are often made out of wood and painted. Again you would need to paint them every 1-2 years, especially if you live in an extreme climate.

While choosing your ideal door, always remember to be unique to portray your house’s individuality. You should choose a door that will attract your visitor’s attention immediately. You must also keep the maintenance of the door in mind while making your choice.
