Five Tips For Finding Affordable Life Insurance

By: Joe Stewart

Does affordable life insurance really exist? That depends on a few things. Do you have a wife at home? Do you have children and if so, are they grown, infant or school aged? What is your current age? What line of work are you in?

Do you have "risky" or unsafe hobbies? These would be things considered "out of the ordinary" by most people

Here are a few tips that might help you in finding affordable life insurance.

#1. Don't take part in dangerous activities. Think about this for a moment. Would you sell yourself a life insurance policy? Life insurance premiums are determined by using average statistics of others like yourself. They come up with your premiums by looking at statistics from other people your age over the previous year.

What this determines is that a certain percentage of people in your age group will pass away over a certain period of time. This means that you can either expect to be rejected for life insurance coverage, have your high risk behavior excluded from your policy or pay a much higher than normal premium. Excluded means that this activity is not insurable.

#2. Take good care of your body. This means to shape up, sleep regularly and eat smart. Watch your stress and spend time with those you care about. Bad habits are obvious. This means sex with one partner, stay in shape and stop smoking. Quitting smoking will save you a ton of money over time.

#3. Consider Buying Term Insurance. Term life insurance policies are by far the least expensive. You could buy a Term policy for a ten or twenty year time frame, in order to get you to retirement age. Guaranteed Renewable Term is an option for you too, if your health is good. "Guaranteed" Renewable means that once you buy it, you've got it for as long as you want it, as long as you maintain the premium payments.

#4. Don't jump right into anything. Speak to several companies before making a decision.

Take an evening and thoroughly review each offer. Ask any questions that you may have before signing any policy. Once you buy, review your policy closely through the thirty day "grace" period. Go through it with a fine tooth and comb and make certain that everything that you discussed with the agent is included in the policy. Check for anything that you may not understand such as "exclusions" or "Modifications".

Don't wait to review the policy, but do it right away, as your beneficiaries future depends on it if anything happens to you. Make certain that they are secure by taking the time to read the policy front to back and get on the phone with the insurance company and insist that they explain it to you thoroughly.

#5. Sit down and go through every expense that you have now and expect to have in the future. This way you know how much coverage you really need. This list should have every personal and household expense that you have, all the way down to dry cleaning.

Refer back to these tips before you get ready to buy your insurance. Good luck!
