Putting is a tough part of the game of golf yet it can also be the part that can dramatically lower your golf scores. Most people are actually naturally pretty good putters. If you watch a lot of kids you will notice that they tend to putt pretty well even without being given any instruction of any sort. Maintaining and building confidence are critical in order to become a consistently good putter. You must learn to forget your missed putts and instead remember all the good putts you did make. This will help to build your confidence levels and improve your putting. Many golfers question their feel or ability to judge distance on a putt. They think it is some special skill that only a few top players are blessed with. The truth is that we all have great touch as long as you stay out of your own way. This means that you need to hit your putts without consciously thinking about speed but rather trust your feel. As you are about to make contact with your putt it is important to focus your mind on the target you have selected. You want to reduce your thoughts as much as possible and simply allow your mind and body to make the best stroke possible. Do not start doubting your read or your stroke as you are about to hit the putt and avoid any thoughts of past missed putts. Follow some of these strategies to help you develop into a solid putter.
