You are going to spend this Christmas – there is no going around that. You may even have to take out a payday loan or a Christmas loan to help you with your expenses. Yet even if you had all the money in the world, it wouldn’t do you any good if you do not spend wisely for the holidays. Here are some of the worst holiday spending mistakes that you can commit and how to avoid them. Underestimating expenses If you have just enough money, this would be a BIG mistake on your part. Not knowing how much you are spending – or going to spend – could lead you to serious financial trouble. Even if you have more than enough money, you could end up spending so much more than you want to. The solution? Make a list of all your expected expenses and work from there. At least this way, you can make adjustments if necessary. Feeling guilty There could be a lot of reasons as to why people feel guilty. First, those who love giving homemade gifts sometimes feel pressured to get people “real” gifts. This is a bunch of *%! Gifts are meant to be meaningful and I couldn’t think of a better way to put meaning into something than making it for them yourself. Second, people feel guilty when they receive a gift from someone they didn’t expect would give them a gift. Their usual reaction is to rush out and find that person a gift as well – even if they were not really on the list. My suggestion? Accept the gift gracefully, be appreciative and leave it at that.
