How To Use PLA Articles

So you want to add content to your website or blog? But it takes you hours to come up with an idea and produce an article worth reading? One way to solve that problem is by using “private label articles”. These are articles that are written by others and then sold without the authors name attached to it. As the new owner of these articles you are free to use them however you want. You can use them on your own sites, you can attach your name to them as the author and you are free to change them to suit your needs.

Sounds pretty good so far but there are things you should watch out for. You can obtain these articles through a collection of articles or through a membership site that gives it’s members new articles each month. While you can certainly create a lot of content with these they are not the only answer.

Good original content comes from articles you create yourself. No one else has used it or abused it. PLA articles can be like a bad relative; you never know when or where it will show up. Even if an article is “limited” to 200 members, that is 200 members that are using the exact same material. If you are buying a collection of articles, chances are they have been around for a while which means even more people have been using them.

Any article you are thinking of using do a google search on it. Search “article title” and see what comes up. You might be surprised. Some of these articles have been around for 20 years or more! Back before the internet in the good old mailorder days you could buy packages of articles that you could resell. These same articles are still floating around.

So do PLA articles have any value? Absolutely! They can be a time saver if you need to add new content to your site. They are a great starting point for generating ideas and adding to your own articles. You can slice and dice them anyway you want. If you want to make them your own there are a couple of things you need to do. The first is change the title. Most marketers are too lazy to even come up with a new original title. So theirs will get lost in the 200 other articles out there with the same title. The second thing is change the content 40% or more to make it different from the original. Read through it a few times and it won’t be hard to add a sentence here and there to make it more readable. Most articles are cranked out pretty fast and leave something to be desired in readability. There are software programs that will do this for you. Some are better than others. Some may leave the article totally unreadable and making no sense at all.

You may find an article you like but it is not about your subject. You might be able to do a simple find and replace to change the content. For example you might find an article about buying a used car. But you want an article about buying a used boat. Simply find every “car” and replace it with “boat”. Then clean up the article and there it is. Microsoft word can do that in seconds.

PLA articles can work wonders and as long as you don’t get lazy like the other 98% of marketers you can use them to your advantage and you will come out ahead of the pack.
