I remember being at work one day, thinking about how much I hated my job, and how I wished that my life were different. Looking at the clock, I kept track of every minute. "Only thirty minutes to go till I get to go home". Then it suddenly hit me, the hospital is 500 metres down the road. I remembered my poor father lying in the cancer ward before his death. Here I am, complaining that i'm at work, and wanting to go home. Across the road, there are terminally ill people who wish that they could get better and go home. I realised that in comparison, I was actually very fortunate. Yeah sure, I hate my job, and my life isn't perfect. But then again, I have my health, and I have a lot of things that some people do not have. We should all be trying to improve our successes. But at the same time, we must also appreciate what we have. If you never learn the lesson of gratitude, you will never be happy. Go for a walk to the cemetery and take a look around. Even if your life isn't perfect, at least you are alive. Some people don't even have that luxury anymore! I saw a man the other day at the shopping centre. He was missing an arm, and a hand. I have nothing to complain about when I see people like that walking around. I'd rather have all the problems in the world and have all of my limbs, and be in good health. Problems can easily be solved, crippling disabilities cannot. Whenever you feel down about your life, I want you to remember those less fortunate others. Some people are terminally ill, some people are retarded, disfigured, homeless, or mentally ill. Appreciate everything you have; your nice parents, friends, family, health, youth, etc Appreciate what you have and your life will instantly seem 10 times better (in 30 minutes or less!).
