Hydroponics: Nature and technology together

Hydroponics exists in nature from endless time. During the twentieth century, agricultural researchers paid heed towards it and then the technical term, "hydroponics" was raised up. With the advent of modern technology several innovations were brought in the agricultural sector as well. Hydroponics is one among them where the whole sector poured in the concentration on raising yields by growing plants in nutrient solution. Soil as the solid medium to hold the roots was put aside.

Past and present

Things do look quite novel but its prevalence in the nature was already there. All of us have heard about the hanging garden of Babylon, floating gardens of Mexico. Some of you have even got the opportunity to visit these sites but have you ever thought how these gardens came into being?

Most of you know about the mythical notions associated with Babylonian garden. But Science shows us that these gardens are actually a consequence of hydroponics gardening. It may happen so that in those days technologically and scientifically such a term had not been coined but today it for sure that without hydroponics such beautiful cultivation would not have been possible.

Better yield in lesser time

It is the wonders of natural power and technological knowledge put together. A recent survey on flowering and vegetable plants have shown that around 60-65% of fruits and vegetables are being grown hydroponically and more than 90% fresh flowers available in the market are an yield of hydroponics gardening.

Is hydroponics convenient to arrange in any space and at any time? Technology grafted a positive answer for it. Without soil and in a smaller area, much more yield could be raised at a single time. To be more precise things were not so superficial. Nature and technology walked hand-in-hand and framed a new and better dimension of hydroponics.

It has been found that the ultimate yield generated through hydroponics gardening and farming can be at least not less than five times the yield raised through traditional gardening. In most adverse situation also the yield is twice the amount grown through traditional farming. And at the most the yield can also reach up to ten times more than the conventional process. Traditional gardening at least takes twice the time required for hydroponics and the space needed is also double.

So, which one will you prefer - a small and cozy indoor garden next to your living room or inside your dining space with no dirt and mud or the age-old garden in the backyard?
