Unlike the traditional system of the plantation requiring soil, sunlight, water and fertilizer, the plantation that only requires nutrient-enriched water, is something more than our expectation. It also requires the aggregates instead of the soil. Therefore, broadly we can say that it is the cultivation of plants without soil. In not only the commercial houses, but also the hydroponics garden in the balconies, green houses and on the roofs can be found. The hydroponics plantation is categorized in the six basic categories. Wick System Wick system is the simplest part of hydroponics, involving no moving part in the forms of electrical energy source; hence it is less costly. Moreover, you do not have to take special care of the plants. A nutrient reservoir containing the nutrient solution is there to supply the required nutrients to the plants through the capillary action of the wick material. Water Culture It is another cost effective way of hydroponics where the plants are placed in the Styrofoam structure that floats on the nutrient solution. The roots are dipped inside the solution; an air pump supplies the oxygen and the nutrient solution to the plant roots; however, it is not good for the long term plants. Flood and Drain Method A tray is there with the substrates like rockwool, gravel and sand, etc. The plants are there with these medium with a temporary flow of the nutrient solution. This solution will then be drained out to a reservoir. The main advantage of this system is that, the plants can be carried to any place. Drip Hydroponics (Recovery and Non-Recovery system) It is the most widely used hydroponics. A timer controlled pump takes the nutrient solution to base of the plant. In case of the recovery system, the solution will be kept in a container for further use and in case of the non-recovery system the solution will be treated as waste and it is not re-used. Nutrient Film Technique Plants are places in a tray. The rockwool or the perlite is also placed in the tray with a constant flow of nutrient solution by the help of a tube from the nutrient tank. One end pumps the solution to the tray, while the other end receives the solution from the tray. Aeroponics Here the roots are hanging and misted in the nutrient solution. Unlike other popular hydroponics, it has a small cycle timer that runs the nutrient carrying pump for a few seconds at an interval of every couple of minutes. It is said to be the most high-tech way of hydroponics. As such, hydroponics gives you the chances of satisfying your dream of plantation at a smaller place with predictable amount of yields at a uniform rate.
