In this competitive market environment, idea generation is enhanced by three primary tactics. These tactics involve relaxation, interaction, and integration. If you are a small business owner, it doesn't matter what you sell, you are first and above all in the marketing business. If you fail to properly market your product or service, your business will fail. In today's competitive environment, it's hard to come up with new marketing ideas. Most marketing tactics are used over and over to the point that they are stale. It's even more difficult for small business owners, who are busy running their businesses, to come up with innovative marketing ideas. So this article covers three ways to generate more marketing ideas. In This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Requires Relaxation: You may think it strange to lead an article on idea generation with relaxation. But small business owners are so busy that many seldom take time to relax and let their subconscious mind guide them. Yet, the subconscious is the source of creativity. Worry and stress hinders your subconscious, but you can free its creativity by relaxing. So what relaxes you? I relax best outside in nature so when I need a creative idea, I just walk outside and enjoy natural surroundings. The wind blowing through the trees, the birds singing, or watching a squirrel gathering acorns put be at ease. Often I get a creative solution to a concern in just minutes after walking outside. You need to know what relaxes you and do it when you need a creative solution to a concern. Whether it's spending quite time by yourself, starring into a fireplace, or walking a treadmill, take time to relax, and you'll get more creative ideas. You can also give your subconscious mind direction by thinking, rather than worrying or stressing, about a concern just before you go to sleep. Direct you subconscious to come up with a solution. It may take several nights before your subconscious answers, but have faith and keep a pen and paper handy to record that answer when it comes. When that creative idea comes to you, write it down immediately. Otherwise, you may not remember it once your conscious mind takes control the next day. Thus, the idea will be lost again. You need every advantage in this competitive market environment so let your subconscious generate ideas for you. It will be the least expensive and one of the most productive workers you'll ever have. In This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Using Interaction: You can also get great marketing ideas when you interact with others. Anytime that two or more people put their heads together to resolve a concern, creative forces are released. In deed, many idea generating tactics base on this principle. Many methods are available to harness the power of people working together to resolve a concern. Sometimes just telling another person about your concern reveals possible solutions. You'll be amazed at how frequently you solve your own problem by just talking to a good listener about it. Other times, everyone in your business will likely have an idea that can enhance your marketing. Each employee has a different perspective of your business and can add good ideas based on that perspective. n This Competitive Market Environment, Idea Generation Using Integration: The third major way to generate more and better marketing ideas is through integration. Small business owners frequently don't see beyond their own businesses or industries. But frequently marketing techniques used in other industries can be adapted successfully to yours. This requires becoming aware of what other businesses are doing and how their ideas can apply to your business. Attending meetings where different types of businesses come together provides you with ample opportunity to learn the creative marketing ideas that other business owners use. Chamber of Commerce and similar meetings are as good for learning from each other as from formal presentations. You can also get loads of marketing ideas from a swipe file. Save all advertisements, publications, direct mail promotions and notes on broadcast commercials in this file. Then look at these items when you need inspiration for your marketing. Although, this is called a swipe file, you don't actually steal the ideas. Instead you adapt them for your business. You need all the help you can get in this competitive market environment. With more businesses marketing, it gets harder and harder to generate new marketing ideas. So you should use whatever you find that heightens your creativity. Conclusion You need to use all three methods of idea generation to assure that your marketing stays fresh. If you use integration, interaction, and relaxation tactics in this competitive market environment, idea generation is doable.
