Job Searching Still? It's time you ask the Question!

By: Mae Paulino

We've been told before, the only stupid question is the one we didn't dare ask.

This is especially true in job interviews. Sometimes, it's not just about the answers you provide; asking the right questions can also help you land a job. As you search for a job opportunity, you will find out just how important it is to show a real interest in the job you want.

Just like an Australian job search is not a singular effort where you just submit your résumé and simply wait for a call, a job interview is also not a solitary effort where the job interviewer dominates. You have something of great value to offer as well: your time, efforts and contribution. Don't get intimidated by the interviewer and don't look desperate for any job opportunity. Give yourself some credit because for all you know, companies are the ones desperately needing you. It's all about making the right connections, so your Australian job search will be as easy as possible.

Below are some very relevant, basic questions that should give you better insight into the job opportunity and company, and have your interviewer realise that this job is important to you.

Go ahead! Make the job interview as interactive and fun as possible, ask well-placed questions, and ultimately end your online job search.

* What is the most important contribution you expect from me in this job.
* Why has this position become vacant.
* How many people have held this position during the last three years.
* What are the major obstacles in this job opportunity.
* What changes do you predict in your company in the future.
* Is the job description expected to change in the future.
* How freely may I make decisions relating to this job.
* What career progression paths are available from this position.
* What dynamics led to this company's achievements in the past.
* I want a long-term job and need to know whether you are looking for the same.

So, now that you have sent your resume, browse through online job searches, and finally got a schedule for a job interview, arm yourself with these questions. After all, it never hurt to ask one.
