Juicy Couture was originally called Travis Jeans and specialized in maternity wear, especially comfortable jeans. It was founded in 1994 by Pamela Kaist-Levy and Gela Taylor - the wife of John Taylor from the 80's pop band Duran Duran). The pair first met in a Los Angeles clothing store. Taking a bunch of old Levi jeans and $200 worth of elastic, they created their first line of maternity jeans. Melanie Griffith was soon seen wearing them and the product become hot property. But Juicy Couture is best known for its cloth and cashmere tracksuits. Coming in a range of colors, they are not your average daggy tracksuits. They are designed to show off the body's curves and are a little cheeky with "Juicy" printed on the bum. Considered the very first "sexy tracksuit" with celebrity appeal, it ensures that you look like you've just been to the gym with Madonna. In fact, Juicy Couture's success has been due to the use of celebrity power. As Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz and Britney Spear began to be photographed wearing their tracksuits, Juicy Couture was catapulted into designer status. The company does no traditional advertising. Instead, the brand gives free outfits to celebrities and let them become walking billboards on the street and the in the magazines. Liz Claiborne took over the brand in 2003 for an estimated $53 million. With Skaist-Levy and Taylor still in charge, it is now one of the company's most successful brands. Selections of Juicy Handbags Are you a celebrity with a small dog? Need to carry him or her in comfort? Then the Juicy Couture Embroidered Terry Pet Satchel is for you.
