In our modern lifestyle the kitchen is becoming much more than the place where food is cooked and eaten. It's where parties begin and end, where the bills are paid, where pets are fed, homework is done and the day’s events are recalled and the day to day family bonding occurs. As the kitchen becomes the focal point of the home, it has naturally gained in size and importance. Homeowners are investing more in their kitchens and allocating generous space in their designs, taking into account its multiple functions as a food-preparation and cooking area, serving and eating area, food and dish storage area, and as a social area. Open kitchen designs that blend into the dining and living area are practically the norm these days. As the demand for additional functionality, technology and ergonomics increases, newer kitchens feature more useable space and modern conveniences such as high tech lighting controls, audio/visuals and internet connectivity. In addition, functional elements such as center islands and high performance appliances are complimented by finely crafted cabinetry, durable counter surfaces such as granite and concrete, backsplashes, multipurpose sinks and high quality tile floors all of which showcase the kitchen as the new entertainment space in the home. In preparation for your kitchen remodeling project it is suggested that you initiate a jurnal a few months earlier and as you work/cook in your existing kithchen write down what you find inconveninent about your existing set up, what are the most repetitive actions you perform, how you deal with the clean up and disposing of the garbage, what appliances you use the most, and which ones you may wish to add to the new kitchen. Take a look at where the microwave oven is. Is it conveniently located or would it be better off in another location? It may be a good idea to incorporate an under the counter or above the range design into your new kitchen. These notes will turn out to be very helpful when the time will come to sit down with your chosen interior designer to design your new kitchen. Do you want a new stainless steel convection oven or a double oven? Do you prefer the greater control of a gas cook top or the convenience of an electric stove? Make sure you provide proper ventilation, both for removing cooking odors and smoke and to minimize the grease that can build up on the surfaces around the kitchen. The kitchen cabinets are one of the most important, and most often used, features of any kitchen, nowadays you can choose among an increadible veriety of hardware to properly maximize the use of space inside your kitchen cabinets. Remember to dedicate plenty of space for cooking utensils, cookbooks and other small items. Finally any cook will tell you that cleanup is an essential aspect of any kitchen design. Beside being beautiful the new kitchen has to be easy to clean, so that it will keep looking new, for a long time. It is a good idea to choose materials that are easy to clean, and to choose kitchen appliances that are designed to repel fingerprints and stains. As a final note, from a financial standpoint, the kitchen has become an area of the home that has a very high rate of return for money invested.
