Kozhikode

Kozhikode has a prominent place in the pages of history. Vasco da Gama, a Portuguese navigator came to this place in the year 1498. This center was once a prominent center of Zamorins. All those beautiful beaches, historical monuments and the cultural background of Kozhikode are more attractive.

You will truly experience the thrills of your trips while you hang around Kozhikode. Age old murals, coins, umbrella stones and more are exhibited in the Pazhassiraja Museum. In addition, it displays odd collections of Raja Ravi Varma paintings. Planetarium of Kozhikode, Regional Science Center, Mishakal Masjid Kuttichira, renowned Lokanarkavu Temple are some other interesting sights in Kozhikode. Thacholi Otheenan, the hero of Vadakkum Pattu was born in Vadakara that is about 48km from Kozhikode.

Jain temple that is a rare sight in Kerala is there at Kozhikode. A temple that homes a good collection of writings about Buddha in the temple, Buddha Vihar. Muchunthy Palli, a mosque that is built in perfect Kerala architectural style is another center of attraction. Mother of God Church, an ancient church exhibits Roman architecture is one of the famous pilgrim centers. Kondotti Mosque draws many pilgrims in the Great Vow festival (Valia Nercha).

Kozhikode is center of wide cultural heritage. The people of Kozhikode celebrate numerous feasts and festivals. Malabar mahotsavam is a colorful event in which a number of cultural and traditional events are staged. As a part of Onam celebrations, Jalotsavam is conducted every year. On every February, it’s a time for great celebrations for the traders of Kozhikode. Malabar Pepper Fest opens way for many traders to sell and purchase products at this spice center.

Kadalundy Bird Sanctuary, Kozhikode beach, rock engravings at Velliyamkallu, Payyoli, light house at Thikkoti, treking at Thusharagiri, hydro electric power project at Kuttiyadi, Wayanad Ghats, the bird sanctuary and dam in Peruvannamoozhi draws anyone to the heart of this center.
