By: Darren T Coates

Ceiling Mount or Wall Arms?
Ceiling Mounts are an ideal method of mounting your LCD/Plasma screen when a wall fixing is unsuitable due to personal preference or environment. This style of mounting offers height adaption from the ceiling to the middle of your screen to suit your preferred length of drop and also can include the option to tilt the screen, thereby providing some viewing flexibility. Such a method is particularly suitable for larger groups of viewers and has become particularly popular commercially within shopping precincts, supermarkets and advertising, especially as most mounts can also support screens back-to-back.
LCD/Plasma wall arms are designed either as a simple wall arm that can be fixed protruding from a wall or an articulated wall arm which has a double elbow joint, thereby giving the greatest viewing versatility as it can be pulled out from the wall and folded flat back against the wall when not in use. In addition, the wall arms provide tilt or tilt and swivel options with an up and downward tilt, but also a swivel from left to right and the flexibility to position your screen for portrait or landscape viewing. This option is particularly ideal within the home such as a lounge where there may be numerous people viewing from different angles. LCD/Plasma screens lose clarity of the picture at around a 45 degree angle so the tilt and swivel option can assist with reducing this problem.

It is advisable when installing your screen and mount that a minimum of two people are at hand, particularly if your screen is large. The actual task of lifting the screen into place, positioning it and then fastening it is a simple job, but it is useful to have additional assistance to ensure the screen is level and help hold the screen while you work. It is recommended that you secure your mount to it's fixture in the ceiling or wall, fastening the adapter plate to your screen, and then mounting your LCD/plasma and adapter plate to the mount itself.
