Starting a mastermind group is a great way to surround yourself with positive people. Your mastermind group becomes your personal "Board of Directors" for your life, looking out for your best interest. When starting a mastermind group, attempt to have atleast 9-11 people. Most of the time, some people will leave town, move away or just get intimidated by the process and quit. You can have an unlimited amount of people, this is just a recommendation. Mastermind groups work best when done at the same place and same time every week. People are creatures of habit and when they get in the habit of showing up at the same time, it works best. Library meeting rooms are a great place to hold a meeting. Any place you choose, be sure that it is a quiet place with very few distractions. Houses are ok, but turn the phone off and keep the kids locked up. The initial mastermind group meeting should give an overview of what is to be expected for the meetings. It should also establish the ground rules of how the process works. People should be encouraged to show up every time unless of an emergency or something unavoidable. I recommend starting the mastermind group with a 10 week study on the book Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill. This book really lays a great foundation of principals of success. We have had incredible success with groups using this book and creating amazing results. The optimal length of time for a mastermind group is 60 to 90 minutes. Diverse opinions add the overall value of the group, do not let a single individual do most of the talking. Each person should come to the meeting with the idea of contributing to others. Being about others in the mastermind group is powerful because it creates a situation where each person has a group contributing to them and their life.
