It can be difficult to stick to a diet plan when one fails to plan his or her meals. It is far too easy to get in the habit of getting something fast without realizing that fast food, even relatively healthy fast food, may not be a good choice for supporting one's weight loss efforts. Because of busy schedules, it is common for people to just grab quick meals. Often this means stopping at a fast food establishment and trying to find some option that won't wreck your diet too badly. Unfortunately, even the healthier options at fast food places may not be ideal for those trying to lose weight. Salad usually seems like a safe choice, but fast food salads are often high in fat, salt, and/or sugar, which can cause a set-back in your diet. Because you don't have the opportunity to study the list of ingredients, you may think you are doing well with the salad choice, but it may have things in it that can really slow down your weight loss progress. Even "lite" salad dressing may be full of sugar, which can trigger a strong insulin response and interfere with fat burning for up to 2 days. Other fast food choices such as grilled chicken wraps and sandwiches are also better overall than greasy burgers, but still may be high in carbs which can spell trouble for your weight loss program. In addition, most sodas, even diet sodas, are not good choices for those trying to lose weight because of the sodium benzoate content (sodium benzoate appears to block the formation of structures called mitochondria in the cells, which are responsible for burning fat for energy). Planning meals and bringing food along with you at times when you won't be home will help you get maximum effects from your weight loss program. By bringing your own food that you've been able to monitor the ingredients on, you'll be able to avoid those hidden things that can block your ability to lose weight. By planning your meals ahead, and having what you want to eat with you when you are ready to eat, you can dramatically improve the efficiency of your weight loss efforts.
