Depending on the motives for purchasing real estate, the factors you need to consider will differ. Investment potential - Identifying the short and long term potential for real estate in any location is important. This is to guard you as much as possible against any downturns in the property market.

Socio-political issues - The attitude towards foreigners, crime rate, and economic prosperity should be considered. Is the location prosperous or is it on a downward trend?

Other factors such as schools (if you have children), healthcare, taxation, general cost of living, and environmental pollution should also be given due thought before deciding on any particular location.

Also, if you are planning on making a new life in a foreign country and will need to work, research the area to discover how marketable your job skills are in the area.
