Right ratios of feeding nutrients in hydroponics

By: Jason Uvios

N-P-K; the formula sounds easy. It’s common and known to all that the basic nutrients needed by the plants are nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus apart from water and oxygen. But providing these nutrients in the correct measurement and at right duration is not sufficient. You will have to also add right strength of certain trace minerals and nutrients to increase the production both qualitatively and quantitatively. And everything including the basic and the secondary nutrients should go in correct order and exact amount as required.

The time-table and the routine nutrient chart

- How to begin about? The initial days of hydroponics gardening requires an intensive care because this is the determining phase where the plants will either grow or wither.

- In the first week or it can also extend up to ten days you require to feed the hydroponically grown plants with 400 ppm Maxsea 3-20-20. These numbers are technical and scientific measurements of the particular nutrient.

- Once you are done with the quantity of the nutrients to be added; now it is the turn of the liquid in which the nutrient will be mixed up. You can depend on the tap water to prepare the solution. In one gallon of tap water you need to add one teaspoon of Maxsea and one-fourth teaspoon of Epsom salts. Epsom salts will meet the magnesium requirement needed for the plant’s growth.

- Once you have successfully finished off with initial phase you will have to increase the amount of the nutrient but bringing about an adjustment in the proportion. The measurement will be 600 ppm Maxsea 16-16-16 about in teaspoon in one gallon of water and also another one-fourth teaspoon of Epsom salts.

- When the growth reaches till the flowering stage, another change is to be brought in the nutrient quantity. Now from one teaspoon measurement you will have to go for a bipartite thing. Here it will be half teaspoon of Maxsea 3-20-20 and same amount of Maxsea 16-16-16. The combination will have to be mixed rightly in one gallon of water. As stated above about the quantity of Epsom salts, you will have to add the same amount in the solution. This is a must during the flowering stage.

- In the final stage of growth you need to add two teaspoons of 800ppm Maxsea 3-20-20 in one gallon of water and the required Epsom salts. This treatment of feeding nutrients will continue till you reap the crops.
