Among the world's most popular water sports is scuba diving. Many are drawn to the idea of exploring the underwater and its mysteries. Such things as exploring shipwrecks, swimming with the fishes, and even sharks is just too exciting for some people to leave alone. Certification is usually not a problem, but diving equipment can be costly. There are many rental shops to solve this problem. They are usually close to the best diving locations. One of the very best places to dive in the world is the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. You will see hundreds of species of tropical fish, as well as a variety of marine mammals. The reef itself is awe-inspiring. There are all kinds of beautiful places to stay and the weather is always perfect. If you haven't yet been certified or if you are a beginning diver, you can join expeditions offered by a number of companies. They will transport you to the Barrier Reef and teach you how to dive. If scuba diving sounds like too much, then you might find snorkeling more to your liking. You can still experience the Great Barrier Reef, a natural phenomenon that all water and nature lovers should see. If you ever travel "Down Under", don't miss this beautiful, protected oasis. Another wonderful reef, and the second largest in the world, is off the eastern coast of Mexico. It's in the warm waters of the Caribbean. You will see tropical fish, a living coral reef and possibly sea turtles. Sadly, the reef has been damaged by recent hurricanes. This area is a tourist's paradise and you can find a number of adventure tours to take you to the best scuba locations. If you stay at an all-inclusive resort in the Mayan Riviera, as it is known, most resorts offer certification and guides to take you out to spectacular scuba locations. Several hours are spent learning how to scuba dive in the hotel pool, and when everyone is ready off you go on a scuba adventure. Many people are leery of being scammed or taught by someone who is not a professional, going through your resort almost guarantees your safety and that proper techniques will be taught. These aren't the only places to experience fantastic scuba diving. Some divers prefer diving for shipwrecks than they do coral reefs. Florida and off the coast of Spain are two of the best regions for this activity. A word of caution: if you are diving in an area where there is a coral reef, please do not touch the reef at all. It is very sensitive and can die at the slightest touch. Unfortunately it can take many years for a reef to regenerate itself so extra precautions must be taken. Scuba diving is a wonderful activity that is enjoyed by many different walks of life.
