Some American Veterinarians Now Leaning Towards B.a.r.f Diet

By: Rick London

Long before the dog food scare, health-conscious dog and cat owners in Europe and Australia knew of the B.A.R.F. diet and had been feeding it to their pets for years. Now America is catching on, but it is a slow process. Raw foods remind us of "something unhealthy". Even the official veterinarian manual does not have a lot of information regarding animal nutrition. Most of it comes from the very powerful dog food lobby, which, may be killing our pets. Forget about the rat poison recently found. That might be the healthiest ingredient in that mush.

Television offers us one view of how to care for our dogs, especially the many "high quality" dog foods now available on the market. But how high quality are they? More and more research is revealing that even the highest quality dog food (and cat food) does not come close to what the b.a.r.f diet can do for dogs and cats.

Not being a vet, I cannot give you medical advice for your dog or cat. I can only share my own experience with Thor, switching him to this miracle b.a.r.f. diet and putting him on herbal tinctures. His energy level and peace of mind evolved to such a point that people were actually telling me they felt a "spiritual connection with this creature". He was walking with me 5 miles a day up until age 17. He had nearly been dead five years earlier. This diet is a force with which to be reckoned.

Medical treatment and medication is the main focus of study in veterinarian schools, not nutrition. Yes they get a few semesters of it, but it is often sponsored and even speakers are invited from the powerful pet food lobby. I do not mean to sound like a "conspiracy theorist, but what other choice do I have? If I want to get the world out, my pen is my instrument. And not to use it means more dying dogs and cats, new diseases that never existed before the evolution of "pet foods" and vets trying to heal something of which they haven't a clue.

Vets are scared that raw chicken bones will choke our dogs and/or ruin their digestive systems. They won't. They are tender and easy to digest. Cooked bones of any kind, chicken, pork, beef, etc *will* and do choke our pets though most vets tell us it is fine to bring them leftover bar b q ribs.

Even though the processor is important, so are bones. Thor received bones of every kind of animal from rabbits to elk to chicken to beef. He didn't have a favorite, but bones are a very important part of the b.a.r.f diet.

Our ancestors came very close to feeding their pets the ideal diet. If it had been raw, it would have been. It is the raw enzymes in the raw foods that spark the system into regeneration, often no matter how severe the digestive problem that the wrong foods caused, and trust me, they cause them.

A few months ago I was flying to Charlotte, N.C on business and to see friends. I was talking to a young woman before takeoff, sitting next to me who had two yellow labs. They were both constantly sick. I told her about the b.a.r.f diet and how most vets don't know about it, because they are educated by the dog food industry salespersons.

A woman in front of us turned around abruptly and said, "Sorry to interrupt. I am a vet in Sterling, Va, an traditional one. But I know as much as anyone about the b.a.r.f diet and I would never recommend feeding a dog or cat processed food."

I asked her how she could possibly compete with vets in her community (She lived in suburban Washington, D.C.), and she said, "Most are already educated there and very aware of the diet." She added, "Many have had their pets on the b.a.r.f diet long before the books were written."

Thor was a survivor. He came back three times from the gates of death. This past week, his body gave out at age twenty one. I have shed many tears but am happy I had the chance to own this amazing creature, and, learn of this incredible diet. I hope and pray others will learn about it and have a similar experience that I had with my loving dog Thor.
