Planning a European vacation can be tedious. You want to please the whole family; however, you also want to get the most out of your vacation. When you choose Spain as your vacation destination, you will do both. Spain is a very picturesque country, with a land full of intriguing history. The Spanish people are just as extraordinairy and are very welcoming to tourists. Take plenty of time to explore the many options and vacation opportunities that are available before deciding which part of Spain you wish to visit. A great part of Spain for a family friendly vacation is Andalucia, in the province of Southern Spain. Here, like anywhere in Spain you will have wonderful weather and beautiful scenery. If you are interested in ancient architecture then a visit to Cordoba Spain is a must. This city is one of the most hitoric cities in Andalucia, displaying old architectural buildings that have stood since the Roman Empire. One of the most popular historical sites visited in Cordoba is the Great Cathedral and Mosque. The Mosque was once a Visigothic Church until Cordoba was conquered by the Moors. The church was unfortunately demolished by the Moors and the mosque was built in its place. The mosque was then turned back in to a church when Spain took back the city. The materials used in the construction of this remarkable church, with its double horseshoe arches are onyx, marble and granite and boasts over one thousand columns within the ancient building. The museums of Cordoba are equally incredible. They contain historical artifacts that can be found nowhere else in the world. The Palacio Museo de Viana at one time was a great palace. It contains artifacts that go back thousands of years. History enthusiasts will be at home when they enter this building, as will botany enthusiasts when they visit any one of the fourteen gardens that are maintained here. Another city in the northwest of Spain that has a very historical past is San Sebastian. Throughout the ages this city has gone through many changes. Once it was a city full of religion, then later a town centered on military functions. Unfortunately San Sebastian has been devesdated by fires twice, only to have been rebuilt on both occasions to the splendour that is seen today. The festivals and celebrations of San Sebastian are the primary draw for tourists. This lively city holds several different events on an annual basis. The San Sebastian Jazz Festival, Jazzaldia, attracts music lovers from all over the world and, now in its fortieth year, usually sees millions of visitors. For six days, the streets of San Sebastian are filled with the sounds of live jazz and the smells of traditional Spanish foods. The San Sebastian Horror and Fantasy Film Festival also brings in crowds of visitors each year. Besides a variety of excellent movies, visitors can enjoy live music venues, comedy acts, and a variety of other street entertainment. These are just two of the incredible festivals that have people flocking to San Sebastian every year. San Sebastian is considered the culinary capital of Northwest Spain. The food has been made famous by the Basques. You can either grab a bite to eat on the sandy beaches of San Sebastian or visit any one of their country style restaurants. Either way, you are in for a culinary experience that will be remembered.
