Companies such as Google and Apple are selling video downloads over the Internet. At first glance, you may think this is only exciting for teenagers, who are looking for music videos, now that MTV isn’t showing music videos as much anymore, but the implications of this phenomenon are huge. Apple has introduced the Apple Video Ipod. This is a nice looking little gizmo that can hold thousands of songs and hundreds of hours of video and movie footage. It is small and compact and can fit in your back pocket. Now let’s put two and two together. We’ve seen the mp3 revolution explode. Virtually everyone is downloading mp3 files to their mp3 players, Ipods, pagers, and cellular phones. Logically, video is the next step. With the increasing popularity of video downloads, a new and little known avenue is being opened for Internet marketers. It is called Video marketing. Technology is dying to be used, especially entertainment technology. There’s a market for paid video downloads, provided that the price is right. This goes beyond TV and movies, and can go into self help and “how to” videos. People are even putting their blogs into video format. Let me give you an example of how you can cash in on this. Say you own a company that builds custom computer systems. There are thousands of how to websites on common computer problems. You could set up a 10 minute video showing how to fix a common computer problem that computer users have. People with this computer program will see sites telling them how to fix that problem in plain text, but your “how to” video will explain it in text and in “hands on” video footage. How do you think they will feel about a website telling them how to do it in plain text, and then a video showing a step-by-step, hands on approach? Of course you know the answer to that. Now why would you take the time to set up a “how to” video to be distributed on the Internet? Because you would embed that video with information about your products and services. You will be giving the market valuable information to help solve their problems now, and at the same time making them aware of your business. You could have thousands of helpful videos on the Internet bringing you increased business, many, many, many times over again. The possibilities are unlimited. A few businesses have already started to ride the bandwagon to video marketing success. Google’s AdSense ads saw its traffic jump up to 1.2 million downloads in just one week last December, due to a hit viral video called “Lazy Sunday”. Google’s new video store will price video downloads with flexibility. They may go as low as 5 cents per video. Other providers such as YouTube provide free video-sharing that distributes Google’s Adsense ads. The video wave will only get bigger and bigger. It will eventually include downloads of entire movies via the Internet. The bandwidth is already there. Last year, cable companies such as Cox Communications and Comcast have increased their download speeds to the home to 5 megabytes per second, up from 3 megabytes per second. This will be one more thing driving Internet users to their computers to find video files to download. Motivated Internet users are willing to pay for the convenience of getting mobile video content when and where they want it. What’s to say that they won’t accept a short advertisement before or after they have downloaded the video, especially if watching that message means paying a little less for the video, or even paying nothing at all? With the increase of video download popularity and the decrease in prices for gizmos such as Apple’s Video Ipod, you can expect video hungry Internet users to search for video. No doubt that this will make many Internet marketers a fortune.
