Toronto, Canada, is an exciting city year round vacation destination and well worth the visit. As one of the world’s top multicultural cities, Toronto hotels can be a home away from home for most international visitors. Millions of tourists from around the world converge on the city because they have relatives living here. Immigration is liberal and the population is growing fast. Most immigrants entering Canada have gravitated to Toronto because it is Canada’s largest city and the Toronto economy of the last decade has been very prosperous. There are large numbers of Chinese and East Indians living in the GTA. The British influence is still very strong and many older Canadians are of British origin. Toronto is a big city with close to 5 million in the GTA. Toronto is 30 miles wide by 20 miles high, and it’s expanding. Downtown Toronto has a variety of sites that most tourists are eager to see. Among them are the CN Tower which recently regained its rank as the tallest free standing structure in the world, the Skydome, now called Rogers Center where the Toronto Blue Jays of the MLB League play, the Eaton Center shopping mall, Canada’s Wonderland, a giant theme park for kids of all ages which is in the very north part of the GTA, and the Toronto Harbor where you’ll enjoy evening cruises against a backdrop of the sunset and the lights of the downtown Toronto buildings. It is very romantic. Along the city streets in the summer, you’ll find an endless array of quaint shops, theaters, and outdoor restaurants to give you a full day of the experience of being in the major Canadian city. Ontario Place is a large entertainment complex at the waterfront, with outdoor cafes, and Toronto hotels, and a huge IMAX theater. If the city of Toronto itself doesn’t have all you need for a wonderful holiday, everything else is very close by your downtown Toronto hotel. Niagara Falls is a short drive away to the south and the Muskoka resorts are about 1.5 hours drive north of the city. There are an amazing number of golf courses just outside the city, right up to the Muskoka resort area. Tours run from Toronto hotels to any of the popular tourist destinations. For one or two days, you might want to drive north to Wasaga Beach which is the longest freshwater beach in the world. The water is warm and the beaches are safe. To the northeast of Wasaga Beach, is the cottage country area called Muskoka this stretch of beautiful natural area loaded with lakes, trees, and rivers is home to numerous resorts. From Gravenhurst to Huntsville, you’ll find some excellent golf courses. The Gravenhurst Boat Show runs every year in early July. There are many architectural sites you’ll want to visit too. Casa Loma is a stone castle not far west of the downtown area, and numerous old buildings still stand. The Canadian Hockey Hall of Fame is an exhibit of Canada’s national pastime located in one of these old buildings. It in turn is housed within a modern mall which connects to a series of underground walkways that makes access to the downtown core easy without having to go outside. If you decide to stay in the Downtown core of Toronto during your visit, there are many luxury Toronto hotels to choose from. Fairmont Royal York is an older hotel that is well known as is the Delta Chelsea. Most of the downtown hotels cater to the business traveler, but many are offering specials for family and other leisure class travelers. The Toronto Airport is well positioned so you can easily travel from your downtown Toronto hotel. Visitors always speak highly of their visit to Canada’s biggest city and you’ll find much to do and have fun in T.O. as it’s called.
