In his article "Advertising Using Traffic Exchanges" Greg Chadwick wrote: "You could be washing your car, or out shopping while the auto surf is earning you credits. Most have no mechanism to get people to actually view your website. So what's the point?" That speaks volumes. A few years back paid auto surf was the rage. Just invest money into the auto surf program, open your browser turn it on and as Greg said go wash your car. The traffic you got to your site was pure garbage but who cared? The autosurf traffic exchange paid you for leaving your browser open. Now a few people got in on this very early and made some pretty good money. I can remember watching debates across a number of forums where people who exclusively used a manual traffic exchange warned auto surfers that they were sitting on top of a ponzi scam and there was no point to doing business with these kinds of places. Auto surfers cried foul and pointed out these manualists were just jealous because auto surfers were making the better and faster money. A few of the auto surfers scanned their checks and posted them to the forums in an effort to validate their point. And then the bottom fell out. It was of course bound to happen since the overwhelming majority of these auto surf traffic exchanges were paying out WAY more than they were taking in. The "model" company of the paid auto surf industry was Studio Traffic. Studio Traffic claimed that by generating enough advertising revenue, they were able to pay their auto surfers. For two years they appeared to keep that promise. Many auto surfers got paid, others would rollover their earnings to the next pay period or beyond, while investing more money out of their pocket to take advantage of the too good to pass up compound payment system. And then one morning, people woke up to find a parked domain and all of their invested money gone. From there it wasn't long before all of these places started to fold; especially with payment processing merchants finally getting wise and cracking down. Pretty soon, the paid auto surf industry was no more. I should mention that Aussie Earners and maybe a handful of others are still in business. Aussie Earners has always shown great integrity in doing right by their customers. But they are the very rare exception to the rule and as you can imagine since the collapse of the auto surfing industry they have had to do some retooling. The point is an auto surf traffic exchange cannot and will not build your business. If you open the auto surf program in your browser and walk away from your computer, then guess what? Everybody else is doing the same thing. Auto surfing violates the whole purpose of a web site traffic exchange which is "I'll look at your website if you look at mine." Without that mutual agreement, you have nothing including no visitors to your website. You may also be missing out on products and information which can directly help your business. So avoid auto surf traffic exchanges and stick with the manual web site traffic exchange. It's a lot more work to be sure but you're building a business which takes time. Better to do it right from the start then to realize half way through you wasted time and you are no closer to driving quality internet traffic to your site or getting people to sign up to your mailing list.
