Try One of These Four Tips to Watch TV On The Computer

By: Marc Sandford

Did you know that thousands of movies, videos and TV shows can be accessed through your computer? Your laptop can be used as a portable television allowing TV viewing wherever you have Internet access.

Now imagine the mobility of your TV set if you had a wireless connection. These are just a few of the perks of being able to watch TV on the computer and this article will discuss four ways of doing this.

1) Did you know that there is a ton of free movie classics, old TV shows and documentaries available for your viewing in the public domain? The public domain contains content with expired copyrights and is totally free for your consumption.

You can readily find this material using a search engine in which your search phrase contains 'public domain' along with terms such as 'film', 'video', etc. If you are patient with your search efforts, hours of old classics will be yours for the taking.

2) You can make your PC monitor display video signals in the same way that your TV does by buying and installing a TV tuner card into your computer. An added bonus to this is the capability of many tuner cards to record TV programs to your hard drive for instant playback.

No Internet connection is necessary here since the TV tuner inputs the same signals that your TV set does. If you are looking for quality, you can expect to pay anywhere from $100 to $200.

3) Want to know a guaranteed method of getting DVD quality movies to play on your computer? Just put a DVD into your CD-ROM drive! Before you attempt this, you have to download the right media player with this functionality.

You can get a freebie at Realplayer.com. Look for and click on the 'Get it free' button. Follow the directions after this. After installing it, Insert a DVD, start up the player and open the 'Play' menu. Then click 'Play CD or DVD'.

4) Yet another way for watching TV on the computer is software that brings satellite TV to your PC over the Internet. All that is needed to make this work is a PC and a fast Internet connection. Nothing else in terms of hardware is required.

This software can cost from $40 to $100 and will give you access to over 3000 channels and shows world wide. Once the software is purchased and installed, a lifetime of unrestricted access is yours.

There is a lot of good stuff out there just waiting to be tapped into using your computer and Internet connection. Internet TV and video is in an expansion phase and can only increase even further in the years ahead.

You really won't know what you are missing until you take the time to check out Internet TV for yourself.
