What Are The Common Erectile Dysfunction Symptoms

By: Moses Wright

Not many people wish to discuss this topic as it is seen as embarrassing. Many think that erectile dysfunction (ED)is a problem, but in actual fact, it is commonly a mere sign that there are other areas that can be troubling you medically.

Erectile dysfunction, however, is usually the result of some other underlying condition. The fundamental issue might be psychological or physical in nature. Disease, hormonal issues and neurological conditions could all trigger the onset of ED. In more severe situations, ED can be the result of anxiety or depression.

With advancements in medical science and longer and healthier life spans, many continue to enjoy sexual pursuits in their golden years. This, in addition to the fact that ED happens to a greater percentage of men who are around 65 years of age shows the seriousness of this problem.

When an individual cannot find fulfillment in sex, a natural function in life, it can affect the individual psychologically. With ED as a symptom, it shows that another disease or cause exists. This is why the treatment of ED can be so difficult. Usually, there is a fundamental issue that needs medical treatment.

Aside from the obvious symptoms of ED, there are many other physical symptoms that may accompany it. One example of this would be high blood pressure. Diabetes is another possible reason and symptoms would include a constant thirst as well as high blood sugar levels. These are only two of the possible issues that can be linked to erectile dysfunction.

Psychological symptoms can also be seen when there is a case of erectile dysfunction. Chronic depression is often associated with this condition. It can be tricky to determine if depression is due to impotence or if it is the reason behind the impotence. Either condition can cause the other.

Performance anxiety may seem silly but is is known to be one of the main reasons for erectile dysfunction if other medical reasons cannot be detected. It can happen for a man who has not had an active sex life for a relatively long time. This could be because of being widowed or divorced, for example. Nervousness about starting to have an active sex life can make one apprehensive about his performance. It can cause actual impotence. A pattern of self doubt and lack of confidence can begin if one starts to believe they cannot perform sexually.

You need to be open with your doctor to try and discover the possible factors that cause ED. Without a clear diagnostic test, it will be almost impossible to treat. Erectile dysfunction can be treated with some prescriptions, such as Cialis or Viagra and there are other treatments if deemed needed. It is still important to have a thorough medical dianosis.
