Actually, no textbook instructions can be given on how to write a poem, per-say. Poetry is creative expression and usually a poet comes into his/her own style in time. However, it is possible for a poet to learn new techniques to improve his/her own writing. There's a poet in all of us! Let's see if these seven techniques can help you improve your style... ...(1.) Know the reason you're motivated to write a particular piece and determine what you have to say about it... ...(2.) Focus on the five W's of the story. Who, What, When, Where, & Why... ...(3.) Choose your intended mood for better control of language... ...(4.) Omit needless words. One strong verb is worth three weak ones... ...(5.) Use nouns and verbs more than adjectives... ...(6.) Don't force words into your poetry... ...(7.) Let your rhymes occur naturally; or create "natural rhymes."
